How we talk to ourselves matters a lot, especially when we are struggling. If my message to myself is "this is all I can do", it may decrease my motivation to do anything. If I tell myself "get it together - you aren't trying hard enough", it may sap my energy and lead to giving up. An alternative is:
"I am doing the best I can right now, and as I am able, I will do better."
By expressing acceptance of the present I validate my current experience, and at the same time invite hope for improvement. Try it, and see if you find it encouraging.
